As our gap year comes to an end, I can't help but to reflect on the amazing year that we've had. There is no doubt that the experiences we've shared have shaped us more than we could ever imagine this year.
On the 26th of December 2011 Bryre Groenewald is reattempting his summit of Kilimanjaro. Unfortunately he had to descend before summitting on his last attempt in Jan 2011 due to spinal surgery he had received the previous year.
The Zimbabwean roads flicker past like a homemade video filmed on a family road trip. I’m sitting in the backseat of my grandfather’s car staring out the window, daydreaming about what Quest Africa will bring, take and create in the immediate future. I was nervous, but excited. Insecure, yet steadfast- that Quest will be exactly what I need at this period of my life.
The inaugural Quest Africa Spring programme has started and the fresh recruits were put through their paces in the first three days with fitness assessments, an arduous hike and river crossing and introductions to multi media and writing professionally.
Student profiles are up, images of the first hike and River crossing are in the image gallery and stand by for blogs and movie clips created by the students.
The 2011 official DVD is ready. There have only been thirty copies been made so book yours now. The blend of music, video and still photography come together to form a truly memorable Quest experience.
The cost is $15.00 US which is either payable to the Quest office in Harare or for those young men who live outside of Zimbabwe you can make an order whereby we will hold back a copy for you and bring it to South Africa personally when we come down.
The one thing the organizers emphasized is that this programme will test your character to the limit, and will help you to develop physical and mental courage, by making you face and conquer fear as an individual as well as part of a team.
The time for Vic Falls is upon us and cannot come any sooner… This term has so far left no stone unturned, no eyes have been able to rest for too long as tired bodies and tired minds grapple with the last unruly loose ends. Be they projects, essays, business lessons, personal moments previously put on hold, Carlisle School, guest speakers…
