Three, Two, One BUNJEE!!!

The time for Vic Falls is upon us and cannot come any sooner…  This term has so far left no stone unturned, no eyes have been able to rest for too long as tired bodies and tired minds grapple with the last unruly loose ends.  Be they projects, essays, business lessons, personal moments previously put on hold, Carlisle School, guest speakers…

World famous and probably one of the more famous Professional Guides in Africa at this time, Garth Thomson has just come and given the most awe inspiring talk.  Backed up with the most fantastic photographic slides he has inspired the photographers amongst us, inspired those with a nucleus of travel or adventure to climb Kilimanjaro, see the Andes.  In his words life is about becoming a millionaire in experiences and it is a statement that we should all try and live by.

We are privileged to live on a continent that has such diverse cultures, geography and potential experiences that if we lived ten lifetimes we would not be able to fully immerse ourselves in each.  We have to be satisfied with a brief glimpse into a few chosen experiences while trying to focus on one or two aspects of life that we find fulfilling.

Prior to this presentation by Garth we were treated to a presentation on the financial and commodity markets.  Such was the enthusiasm which these talks were given the majority of the class were ready to sign on the dotted line and become brokers of some sort.  .

Craig Hattle and Jan Pelzer (flown in from Johannesburg) came and delivered the final business simulation where they were running a horticultural business.  They had to study the weather, financial markets, world events etc and factor these in to their management schedules.  Some students made profits and other did not.   Robert Kiyosaki, author of ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ and his board game ‘Rat Race is wonderful as it opens up one’s eyes to how the ‘game of life’is played, who the players are allows one to see past the confining boundaries of every day life.  We are all so busy concentrating on how to do the small things correctly that quite often we miss the big picture.

Life is a smorgasbord of choice and it merely takes a little knowledge about this plethora of possibilities to unlock potential new directions in life.

This upcoming trip to Victoria Falls is supposed to provide just this type of spring board for delving into the world of hotel or lodge management, albeit briefly; of taking part in adrenaline sports such as white water rafting and bungee jumping.  And if one thinks past the carnal pleasures of feeling the adrenaline coursing through one’s arteries to the possible job or career opportunities lurking not far behind.  Ilala Lodge will be hosting them where they will be getting their work experience.

Whichever course the students decide to follow after this course with Quest, Victoria Falls will remain at the forefront of their memories for the rest of their lives.

It is I the swan song for these young men, who after five and half months of blood, sweat and tears can take a step back and concentrate on what they have achieved both emotionally and physically.

We look forward to hosting friends and family at the graduation ceremony on the 19th September and preparations are already afoot for the big day
