Fishing and Faidherbia

Fishing and Faidherbia
By Dylan Steyn of Cousteau Tent
This week was a much needed week for the Questies of 2107. The vast Lake Kariba and extremely wild Mana Pools Nature reserve lay before us with a mixture of hard work and plenty relaxation.
This week we were graced with the ‘levelling up’ of two of the Questies (Guy and Keaton) who were split into different groups so both may have some easy sailing on their days.
The group that went to Mana Pools experienced a much muddier Mana with plenty more pools and lots of slipping and sliding whilst doing the hard work of erecting a fence around an area to protect some very special trees (Faidherbia Albida) from the game, mainly the elephants. The second group came in and dug the holes and planted the trees.
Mana held many mud fights in our breaks, and some hungry visitors late at night if the pots and pans were not properly cleaned.
Meanwhile in Kariba the other group indulged in fresh fish meals and salad lunches. Four days on a boat can seem more tiring than it sounds because we couldn’t go on land much and thus didn’t move around a lot and some of us, when not fishing madly, definitely turned into couch potatoes.
At the end of it all, just meeting up with the other 12 was awesome as all had stories of what had happened during their time at the different venues and these were exchanged on the overlander on the way back to Quest. 24 tired Questies travelling in an oversized bus/truck for 7 hours listening to some tunes and having a good laugh at the happening from the previous week helped make the journey seem a lot shorter.
